Sanitation Value Chain: Unlocking Opportunities in Sanitation

Nakuru County Sanitation Programme
Knowledge hub

The attached document is a bundle of publications and research papers made in the course of the Pit2Product project in Nakuru, that was supported by VIA Water and the Nakuru County Sanitation Programme (NCSP). The project lead was with VEI, Nawassco, SNV, Scode, and Egerton University as main partners. The research agenda was stimulated by the VIA Water learning agenda request. The research provides interesting research data on faecal sludge based bio-fertilizer and bio-fuel, and based on this research, the option of producing briquettes from human waste was selected as the most promising. It was found to offer a safer, affordable, and more sustainable energy solution for cooking, compared to the widely-used charcoal.
