Designing, Prototyping and Testing a mobile app for sanitation
Pula is a mobile phone application that aims to improve sanitation in unsewered urban communities. For both private and public stakeholders within the faecal sludge management (FSM) sector, access to data is crucial for making informed decisions. However, such data is often either unavailable or inaccurate.
This Practice Note brings in key insights from this project over the past 3 years to describe the design process behind the development of the app. It answers questions on what a design sprint is, how to create a Minimal Viable Product and concludes with key recommendations for sanitation app developers.
A useful and practical guide for those in the WASH sector wanting to integrate mobile app technology into the provision of sanitation services.
